WHBQ
Site of Hotel Chisca, where WHBQ was broadcast. The legendary deejay Dewey Phillips — Daddy-O-Dewey — first played “That’s All Right” from the station and rushed Elvis in for a live interviw July 8, 1954, because of the overwhelming phone response to the song.

I worked at WHBQ and Dewey Phillips introduced me to Elvis in February 1956. Was greatly impressed with his good Southern manners. While I appreciated his talent at that time, never in my wildest imagination did I anticipate that he would still be “The King” 51 years later and 30 years after his death.
we heard [Thats all right now mama] ist time played next day everyone was saying [thats alright now mama] all over memphis. at work home etc if you made an error , bumped into someone ; [ that became the thing to say]
I SHOWED ELVIS 3 WRESTLING HOLDS BACK 1959 WHEN HE WAS GETTING HIS BLACK IN KARATE FROM THE MARINES BASED AT MILLINGTON.
I’ve always been an admirer. Drive-in-movies, as a child, mom and a couple other siblings. What enjoyment. Today an adult, with two pets, a roommate that’s now on retirement, and myself, with one day left, before I decide to go back to college, to fininsh a degree I started a little in my life, but I was just grateful to record a little of the Elvis Specials, that were showing, and “I’ll be dammed, if couln’t record all his special talent and most precious person’s that he was and still is today along with his most precious of a Familily, both parent’s and such a beautiful wife Precilla, and Daughter Lisa. Thank You all very much, and please send me my copies of his lovely ollecions. I have no credit, but I will surely pay a C.O.D. payment, if possible to pay that way or money order ok. Thank You, Ms. Velia L. Bastardo. I’d enjoy listening or seeing some of the precious family moments through any thing mother nature brings to life. ok, God Bless you all His Family.
