Top Dawg

We asked some of the biggest talent gurus on the planet whether anyone, past or present, was or could be as big a celebrity as Elvis Presley.
From Randy Jackson and Simon Cowell to Rolling Stone music critic and historian Dave Marsh, the answers compared Elvis with everybody from Michael Jackson to Frank Sinatra to Marilyn Monroe.
What they had to say will be in our special Elvis edition of Friday’s Playbook or on the internet at www.goelvis.com. We don’t want to give it all away just yet, but one of our favorite comments was from Tom Brown at Turner Classic Movies in Atlanta. Brown, vice president of original productions, said Elvis and Sinatra, both eventual movie stars, began the same – with screaming girls at their feet.
“But people didn’t suddenly cut their hair real short, lose a lot of weight and wear a tuxedo to look like Sinatra.”

I saw Elvis four times in concert. I have also seen most of the big performers and bands, such as Bruce Springsteen, The Rolling Stones, The Eagles, Billy Joel, Paul McCartney, Bob Seger, Rod Stewart, Elton John and many many more and without a doubt Elvis is the greatest artist and performer of all time. His voice was incredible and his command of the audience was second to none. There will never be another entertainer that will have the impact on popular culture that Elvis had. This is obvious by his continued popularity 30 years after his death.

  • Elvis: The original ‘American Idol’

Earlier this year on the hit television show “American Idol,” a young, tanned Elvis Presley walked onto the stage and performed a roughly three-minute duet with Celine Dion.
The stunning performance, which left viewers across the world asking “How did they do that?” could be routine once Robert F.X. Sillerman is finished recreating Graceland. […]

  • Assembly of God Church

Once the site of Assembly of God Church, which Elvis attended through 1954, and where the Blackwood Brothers Quartet and their families were members. Elvis would sneak out of Sunday services to go a mile down the street to East Trigg Avenue Missionary Baptist Church, to hear Rev. Herbert Brewster and the singing of Queen C. Anderson and the Brewsteraires.
