New Elvis Record
The latest Elvis record is not the kind you download. If you were in Memphis, you knew you weren’t on Lonely Street at all those sold-out events. But Graceland spokesman Kevin Kern says the official attendance figure for the week was 75,000. Even in the sweltering heat, 55,000 took part in the candlelight vigil. “The 30th anniversary breaks all previous Elvis Week records,” says Kern.

On the morning of August 16, 1978, three friends and I were the first to place candles into the top of the wall surrounding the grounds of Graceland after having spent the entire night paying our respects to Elvis.
This was the “TRUE” candlelight service..which has evolved into an annual event.
Where is & What “NEW” record?
Elvis week was wonderful - The love that poured out from nearly everyone the entire week was magical, emotionally charged, so thoughtful and touching and at times, intense, much like Elvis himself must have been like in person.
I wasn’t expecting the emotional overload, nor the lack of sleep I was surprised that I didn’t mind missing.
Nor the not eating - for some reason, I couldn’t get down much, except some Rendezvous ribs the last night. Then coming home, and for the next 4 months, I have been wired until about 4 a.m.
And the dreams! They are amazing, and I am in Memphis again with Elvis, having laughs and lots of fun.
It’s been amazing - I missed leaving Memphis - like I was leaving my own hometown.
Can’t wait to go back!
